Day 6: Doubles finalToday we were lucky with the weather conditions, all matches could be played outdoors. It wasn't a nice sunny day but we were already happy that the girls could play on the clay. Some girls had to play on Thursday up to three matches (singles and doubles) and two of them just finishing at 10.30 pm. You could see that they needed some games to really get warmed up and play on their usual level. The four quarter final matches were all of good quality but the match between first seeded Mona Barthel and Bibiane Schoofs was the best. |
Day 4: Yanina Wickmayer in the houseAlthough the weather wasn't really good today and all the doubles matches had to be played indoors we were lucky in the afternoon with the weather conditions. It wasn't really sunny but it didn't rain. Center court and court 1 were prepared for an afternoon full of fun and tennis. |
First seed cruises through opening matchThe first match of the maindraw was played between our first seed Mona Barthel (WTA110) and Fatma Al Nabhani from Oman. It was quite some one-way tennis and the first seed had no problems to win her first match of the tournament. She will play on Thursday her second round match against either defending champion Maryana Zanevska or Bulgarian Martina Gledacheva. It will be a tough round for Maryana to defend her title but tennis is an unpredictable sport. |
Day 2: Belgians keep going throughToday was a big test for the remaining Belgian. Will they be able to win two matches in a row or not? Three girls did. That's not bad at all. Although there were 5 girls playing today, one had to lose anyway, there was again an all Belgian match between Elyne Boeykens and Steffi Distelmans. So a total of 3 out of 4 players going through is not bad at all! Maybe the'll get lucky to morrow and get through to the main draw, either as a qualifier or as a lucky loser. |
Day 1: Kick-offThe last match of the first day is almost finished so it's time to recapulate what happend today. First of all I have to admit to be quite surprised but also glad that 5 of our 9 Belgian participants won their first round match and continue their run in the qualifying tournament. Especialy the win of Elyne Boeykens was impressive, with good tennis, a high percentage game she cruised through her match. |
