Day 2: Belgians keep going through

By admin - Posted on 11 July 2011

Today was a big test for the remaining Belgian. Will they be able to win two matches in a row or not? Three girls did. That's not bad at all. Although there were 5 girls playing today, one had to lose anyway, there was again an all Belgian match between Elyne Boeykens and Steffi Distelmans. So a total of 3 out of 4 players going through is not bad at all! Maybe the'll get lucky to morrow and get through to the main draw, either as a qualifier or as a lucky loser. There weren't that many surprises, the highest player losing today was thrid seed Ulrikke Eikeri (NOR) who lost against Belgian India Maggen.

It was quite a busy day for the tournament organization. The last details were altered and the players of the main draw arrived. One of those girls was our first seed Mona Barthel, she's also celibrating her 21th birthday and got a bottle of champagne to celibrate it.

To morrow anounces to be a busy day, a total of 19 matches will be played on our 4 courts, that's if the weather doesn't disturb the players too much. Many Belgians will be on court and quite a lot of the seeded players in the singles draw will start the tournament with a doubles match, it's an ideal preparation for their first rounds on Wednesday.
