Day 6: Doubles final
Today we were lucky with the weather conditions, all matches could be played outdoors. It wasn't a nice sunny day but we were already happy that the girls could play on the clay. Some girls had to play on Thursday up to three matches (singles and doubles) and two of them just finishing at 10.30 pm. You could see that they needed some games to really get warmed up and play on their usual level. The four quarter final matches were all of good quality but the match between first seeded Mona Barthel and Bibiane Schoofs was the best. Good baseline rallies were shown to the public.
The doubles final was special, doubles specialist Kim Kilsdonk could win this tournament for the thrid time, an absolute record in Zwevegem. Although she was not far away from victory Kim and her partner couldn't finish it in the match tie-break and had to settle with the runner up's price.
This was the first tournament for Maryna Zanevska and Lenka Wienerova playing together as a team. They both lost early in the singles draw and the doubles victory was a welcome gift. Maryna will take some time off beofre going back to the academy to prepare herself for the next tournaments, Lenka will play an $25.000 in Great Brittan as preparation for the US Open.
